Before I was leading a global consulting team delivering projects across multiple continents, I was a martial arts sensei running a dojo. I spent my days teaching discipline, leadership, and intense individual focus—refining every movement of a kata with precision.
That kind of focus taught me a lot about commitment and personal excellence. But it also showed me something else: success in the dojo doesn’t always translate to working in a team. Martial arts are deeply individual. Consulting is not.
The real turning point came when I transitioned from being a student to a teacher. Teaching required me to shift my mindset—from mastering a solo discipline to helping others grow together. It taught me how powerful it can be when individuals bring that same level of detail-oriented focus, but apply it as a team.
That’s what inspired how I built SJ-Consulting.

We’re not a boutique shop. We’re not a massive firm either. We’re a growing consultancy that chooses to scale differently.
While our company continues to expand, we stay committed to working in small, client-dedicated teams—because it works. It’s how we move faster, think deeper, and deliver better outcomes for our clients.
What I’ve learned from both the dojo and the boardroom is that small, focused teams win—not because they’re small, but because they’re deeply invested and constantly connected - there is far less red tape.

The Strength of Focused, Aligned Teams
What I’ve learned from both the dojo and the boardroom is that small, focused teams win—not because they’re small, but because they’re deeply invested and constantly connected.
Precision Over Volume
Like refining each movement in a kata, we obsess over the quality of what we deliver. That shows up in custom strategies, client trust, and long-term results—not volume.
Speed Without Chaos
With no bureaucracy slowing us down, we pivot quickly when projects need it. Decisions are made in real time—often between just a few people who are in sync. We consult one another almost daily, with no hesitation and no ego.
Personal Accountability
Everyone on our team owns their space. Whether it’s designing a workshop, running a system audit, or publishing insights—their work is visible, respected, and makes a real impact.
Human-First Culture
We’re not just task-focused. We mentor, support, and invest in each other’s growth—and our clients’. The human side of business matters deeply to us. It’s why we thrive even while working remotely.
Remote, But Never Distant
I know what people say about remote work—especially in consulting and tech. That it’s isolating. Disconnected. Lonely. And sure, that can happen in large organisations where you’re just another face on Zoom or Gather.
That’s not our story.

That’s not what it’s like when you’re part of a small, tightly aligned team. At SJ-Consulting, our team size is our superpower. We all know what each team member is working on. We check in often—not because we’re required to, but because we genuinely care. Whether it’s a spontaneous Gather chat (our favourite online office), a debrief after a client session, or a shared team win, our communication stays human and effortless.
No one gets lost in the shuffle—because there’s no shuffle. Everyone’s voice is heard.
Everyone’s presence is felt. Yes, we work across cities and time zones—but the camaraderie we’ve built makes it feel like we’re just one table apart. What’s one small team advantage you love? When I asked our team this question, the answers reminded me why I chose to keep each client-facing team small. Here’s are the ones that stood out:

That’s the kind of environment I always wanted to be part of—and the kind I’ve committed to building.
